Jenifer Tharani is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, the founder of Fresh Perspective Nutrition.

Jenifer was born and raised in India. Growing up, she was habitually surrounded by fresh produce, meats, and spices. Her love for food started during her undergraduate degree in Food Science. She enjoyed developing food products as a food scientist until she got an opportunity to wear a ‘Nutrition Educator’ hat during her visit to Kampala, Africa. She enjoyed creating a nutrition education program for teaching new moms how to feed their toddlers healthy foods on a budget. Her newly developed passion for nutrition counseling inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in Nutrition from Texas State University and become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Jenifer lives in Toronto, Canada.

Personal Story: 

Jenifer’s father was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure in 2012. But, as many South Asians, he remained in denial for more than a year. He was too shy to reach out to a dietitian for help. He said to my mom one day, “I have eaten South Asian foods and delicacies for my entire life, so why should I change my lifestyle now? The dietitian will ask me to eat salads everyday which I don’t want to do. I love my rice and ghee. I’ll be fine.” It was less than a month after this conversation, her father lost his eyesight to unmanaged diabetes and high blood pressure. Her father did not value seeing a dietitian to help him manage diabetes through simple and effective lifestyle strategies! Jenifer was not a dietitian when her father needed one. Therefore, now that she is a dietitian, her mission is to help families live a diabetes free, hearty, and a good quality life every month. She is a huge advocate of using whole foods as medicine and managing illness through lifestyle changes.

Fresh Perspective Nutrition is a “all things” health and wellness website. Through this website, social media, & nutrition coaching, Jenifer aims to help busy people take charge of their chronic illness such as diabetes or heart conditions without fad diets. Jenifer has created  a nutrition toolbox of simple, sustainable changes to help you live a healthy, happy, and dieting free life.

Fun Facts:

Jenifer’s favorite foods are eggs, okra, mutton pulao, avocados, barley, nut butter and a variety of home-made street style tacos. Tacos are an El Paso thing! Jenifer’s favorite indulgences include morning cardomom chai latte, golden turmeric milk,  and dark chocolate with roasted almonds.
